The Studentship

The Cambridge DTP offers at least 33 studentships for admission in October each year.

About the studentship:

  • Funding for a PhD of up to three and a half years;
  • Covers full fees at the University of Cambridge
  • Can be full or part-time;
  • Covers a wide range of disciplines (see DTP list of Departments and include link)
  • Is available to Home and Overseas students
  • Provides up to the Home rate fees + £18,622 pa stipend (rates for 2023/24) + personal allowance of £300pa for research training needs

International Students

International students receive a Home rate DTP studentship and have access to all the opportunities provided by the DTP, a bursary can be arranged to cover the international fee costs. If an offer of admission is made, students will also need to cover the costs of immigration into the UK (including a health surcharge before the studentship starts.

Discretionary Fund

Over the course of their studentship, ESRC DTP PhD students may apply for further financial support from the ESRC DTP Discretionary Fund to support the following additional activities in their PhD:

  • Collaborative opportunities
  • Additional funding for research training (over and above your RTSG allowance)
  • Conference Support
  • Overseas Fieldwork
  • Difficult Language Training
