Isabel Airas

PhD in Geography in the Department of Geography.

Supervised by: Professor Ash Amin

Isabel's research focuses on the role of affects and emotions in populist politics. She will be monitoring 1) the Sweden Democrats' campaign in the run-up to the 2018 Parliamentary Elections, and 2) the Worker's Party of Belgium's campaign in the run-up to the 2019 Parliamentary Elections; both their online social-media campaigns and their campaigns on the ground. She is also interested in the specific explanations behind support of these parties, and will therefore be working closely with their supporters. The working title of her PhD thesis is ‘Populism as Political Resonance Machine: The Affective Politics of 'Sverigedemokraterna' and the 'Parti du Travail de Belgique''.
